Once your book is published, you have to let people know it exists. Just letting it show up on the shelves in the store or on the list at Amazon.com isn't enough. Potential book-buyers need to be made aware. How does that happen? The publisher will put in a great deal of effort to make that happen, but due to the nature of the business, this effort will last about a month. Why? To start working on the next month's list of books, of course. With publicity departments chronically understaffed, and with most work being done by young, underpaid, and inexperienced people, I recommend that authors hire a freelance publicist to give their book some "legs," or to have more than a single month's shelf-life. The publicists listed below are all battle-hardened, experienced publicists who have the contacts and the know-how to get your book noticed. They may not make you a bestseller, but you'll sell more copies with them on your side than without.
