FLY ON THE WALL/Antenna Books mystery
Michael Hirsh
Fly On the Wall introduces Volunteer Deputy Sheriff Paul “Fly” Moscone, who became a cop in a small town on Florida’s West Coast after retiring and moving down from Jersey. It’s Carl Hiaasen meets Jimmy Buffet—crime, corruption and oddball Floridians.
Fly is on his first big case, and he’s living up to his nickname by driving everyone around him crazy. His long-suffering wife Sophia is still puzzled how he managed to convince the department shrink he was sane. Fly’s best buddy is recovering L.A. journalist Bill Shiffman. Shiffman has his own nickname to live down—Jinx—something to do with fishhooks through thumbs…
In the small town of Punta Gorda, Florida, midway between Sarasota and Fort Myers, the pace of life is so slow it seems as if time is going backwards. Until Hurricane Charley hits. Once the storm is over, Fly answers a 911 call to a condo that has blood dripping through the ceiling, and someone starts taking potshots at the roaming bands of insurance adjusters. When the mysterious gunman finally kills one, Fly has more on his plate than he’s prepared for.
With the help of Jinx, and without breathing a word of it to Sophia, Fly sets out to solve the murders. It’s just the first literary adventure for Fly, who will routinely wind up in the soup, on the wall or in the ointment.
