The Pure                                                                                                                                                                               Young Adult
Romina Garber

The Pure is the tale of a teenage detective who must uncover the source of the Darkness that’s plaguing her town before it kills everyone she loves.
After losing her parents in a mysterious tragedy that left only her untouched, 16-year-old Gabrielle Harte attempts to start a new life in the small California town of Monterey, living with her aunt and going to a new high school. But misfortune seems to be following her, preceded by the appearance of a mysterious black smoke. People continue to die around her—in perplexing circumstances—and she fears she might somehow be responsible. As Gabrielle channels her police detective father’s investigative skills, she tries to solve the case that has become her life, finding answers in the shadows, where a chillingly beautiful boy—who only she can see—has offered to help her uncover the truth.
But every day brings more questions than answers. When an uncle she never knew she had shows up on her doorstep, she learns there are dark and magical secrets lurking in her family’s past. As she delves deeper into her history, she feels the stirrings of unusual powers inside her. Could she be a source of Light to counteract the Darkness? While her mind strives to make sense of everything, her heart yearns for two boys who couldn’t be more different. Trapped in a love triangle between her protector and the force of her potential destruction, Gabrielle must piece together this puzzle before her time runs out.
The story of a pragmatic girl beginning to understand that nothing in this world is purely black or white, The Pure is the first book in a projected series that will take Gabrielle farther and deeper into the supernatural than she ever thought possible.

Picture
Romina Garber is the General Manager and lead writer/producer of Goodspot, a motion picture marketing studio, but at heart she’s an adolescent wading through a labyrinthine world of supernatural creatures and tempestuous love triangles.
Born in Buenos Aires, her parents uprooted the family and moved to Miami when she was five years old.  Her first day of school was on Valentine’s Day, and since she didn’t understand a word of English, she mistakenly assumed the celebration was in honor of her arrival. This misunderstanding is no doubt responsible for her insatiable love of sweeping romantic tales—and her addiction to dark chocolate.
In high school, she became editor of the school paper and a Knight Ridder Scholar. The summer before her freshman year at Harvard University, she convinced the Miami Herald’s Executive Editor to give her a voice in the paper, and he gifted her with a weekly Sunday column called “College She Wrote,” which she penned from her dorm room every week. It was later picked up for national syndication, so Googling her name became a totally legitimate pastime.
At Harvard, she produced the Hasty Pudding Theatricals.  After graduation, she decided to head to Hollywood. When she isn’t writing YA novels, Romina can be found making movie trailers, playing with her super awesome life-sized R2D2, practicing her rock ’n roll drumming skills, and blogging on her site, www.rominagarber.com.
