THE GOOSE IS LOOSE by Richard "Goose" Gossage                                                sports/memoir

Picture
A premier relief pitcher for the Yankees, White Sox and Padres from the early 1970s into the early 1990s, Gossage was known as much for his fierce look on the mound with his Fu Manchu mustache as well as for his blistering fastball. Gossage was finally elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2008.  His autobiography, recounting some of the crazy and hilarious moments in his career, as well as his behind-the-scenes look into the Bronx Zoo locker room of the Yankees of the late ’70s and early ’80s, was published in hardcover in 2000 and has never been in paperback.  Personable, funny, and always quotable, Gossage is a fan magnet and personal appearances will sell books to fans eager to get their hands on the story of baseball’s newest Hall of Fame reliever.

“…painfully honest about his role in a game the chosen few play.”
--The New York Times

“Gossage...collected enough stories to compile a baseball memoir in which he recounts innumerable hijinks...  Unlike many athletes who chronicle their lives, Gossage is not afraid to throw inside.   ...its 'no BS, let-the-chips-fall-where-they-may' approach makes it as engaging as any sports bio in the game today.”
--Publishers Weekly

“This richly textured, very funny memoir is filled with all the characters that today's button-down baseball lacks.  Gossage makes us all realize why we wanted to play big-league baseball when we were kids: you never have to grow up.”
--Booklist, Wes Lukowsky

“Like having a couple of beers with an old ballplayer at a bar. It’s rambling, rude—even offensive—but also a lot of nasty fun.”
--Entertainment Weekly (B+)
