Medal of Honor History military nonfiction/history Edward F. Murphy
This is a non-fiction narrative history of our country’s highest award for combat valor, the Medal of Honor.
The 150th anniversary of the first awards of the Medal of Honor is in 2013; there has not been a book of this comprehensive nature published since 1963. Public interest in the heroic deeds of our military members remains high; in recent years the Medal of Honor has been awarded for gallantry in Somalia, Iraq, Afghanistan, and most importantly, many of the accounts of the dozens of medals awarded since the 1990s to individuals originally denied the award due to missing witnesses or paperwork, discrimination, and political reasons have yet to be told.
Edward F. Murphy is well-qualified to author this important volume. For over twenty years he headed the Medal of Honor Historical Society, a non-profit corporation devoted to researching the biographies of recipients and the history of the medal itself. He is the author of three Medal of Honor books, Vietnam Medal of Honor Heroes, Heroes of World War II, Korea’s Heroes, as well as Dak To, Semper Fi-Vietnam, and The Hill Fights, all originally published by Presidio Press.
